Jabalbina operate in the interests of Eastern Kuku Yalanji People of tropical north Queensland. The organisation employs more than 50 staff across a variety of operations including land and sea country management (through the delivery of ranger and Indigenous Protected Area programs), youth justice and Junior ranger programs, cultural heritage protection and promotion, and language invigoration (to name a few).
Jabalbina have grown rapidly over the past decade and have worked with ESS each step of the way. ESS have assisted Jabalbina to increase their scope of operations, while maintaining a core focus on effective business information and project management, which has been underpinned by the use of their customised Eastern Kuku Yalanji Cultural Information Management System (EKY CIMS).
ESS has developed and refined EKY CIMS over time to meet and support Jabalbina's expanding information management needs. As such, EKY CIMS remains the central information hub for Jabalbina's various operations, including project management and reporting; the delivery of a monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement program; cultural heritage, seasonal calendar, and traditional knowledge recording; ranger program and fee-for-service contract planning and delivery; and storage of multimedia.
The development of custom dashboards within EKY CIMS has further extended the value of EKY CIMS. These dashboards are now used for reporting to Traditional Owners during clan governance meetings and community events, communicating with government agencies and funding bodies, and tracking progress against projects and contracts.
A particularly impressive development is that Jabalbina have made their Operations Dashboard public. This custom dashboard, driven from data within EKY CIMS, publicises the work being done across Jabalbina's different teams, shows the locations of their work, and aligns this work with the organisations values and threats.
